Puppies from our last litter before going to their new homes.
Prelude Farm and Kennel is the home to a wide variety of animals loved and cared for by David Swartwood and Thomas Nesbitt. We offer boarding, grooming and training for your dog as well.
In 2013 Buddy (American Canadian Grand Champion Bryden's Walk The Line) ended 2013 as Canada's Number One Springer! After winning the Canadian Nationals in 2012 (and BOS in 2013) He won the Dallas-Fort Worth Springer Specialty with Junior Handler Bridgett Coffey during his stay with handler Becca Gear who guided him to his US Grand title. Thanks to breeder judge Linda Reidel-Ramblewood.
Check out the Canadian Kennel Club Rankings for 2012. Prelude Mini Wires held 5 out of 10 placements and the number one dog "Mario" was sired by our Italian import Pio out of a girl we bred and sold to Roxanne Ogden and Bonnie O'Brien. See the Prelude link for more information.
We had an incredible year judging in 2012. We added Chile and South Africa to our list of visited countries along with return trips to Colombia, Mexico and stints across the US and Canada. I have added a video of our trip to South Africa to the judging section of our page. It includes the safaris we took, the incredible people we met and some of the dogs we were lucky enough to judge.

With limited showing Prelude/Bryden dogs did very well and made their mark in their repsective breeds.
Ch. Bryden's Walk The Line - "Buddy" finished 2011 as the number 3 Springer Spaniel in Canada. Shown just 3 weekends we are quite pleased and look forward to some shows for him in 2012 as he matures.
Ch. Bryden's Walk On The Wild Side- "Jessie" finished off the year in style at the big Cleveland shows. Finishing her Companion Dog and Rally Obedience titles.
Prelude Mini Wire Dachshunds had a very respectable showing the top standings. Peggy Sue at number 6, Hogan number 8, Crosby number 9 and Saucie at number 11. Congrats and thanks you to their owners.
Last but not least is Diego our lone Pug. He finished as the Number One Pug Puppy in Canada and number 14 overall. Pretty nice in just 4 weeks. He has started showing in the US and we will keep you updated. Thanks Juan for entrusting us with him.
Obedience Classes will be starting soon. Winter classes will begin on Feb. 15th. Call now for reservations.
Bryden English Springer Spaniels. For nearly 30 years we have strived to create a dog who is a healthy, sane, adaptable, fun and energetic who lives to please it's family. Every generation gets us closer to that goal. We have had great success in conformation, obedience, agility, rally, therapy but more importantly producing family members who enhance your lives.
We breed on a small scale and generally have a waiting period to find the right puppy or adult to add to your home so be patient if this is where you want to go for the right springer, I assure you, it's worth the wait.
We have been very fortunate in our breeding program to incorporate well established pedigrees from the US and Europe. Always keeping in mind that the majority live long healthy lives as the family pet we strive to produce outstanding temperaments. Friendly, outgoing and a wee bit mischeivious. A Prelude puppy will steal your heart. We have exported puppies around the world including Australia, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, Switzerland, Italy, and across North America.
Thom is a licensed All Breed judge through the Canadian Kennel Club and the International All Breed Canine Association (IABCA). David currently is approved to judge all dogs in the Sporting and Hound Groups and Half of the Toy Group through the Canadian Kennel Club
and judges All Breeds through the IABCA.
Prelude Farms started in 2002 with a flock of Border Leicester sheep. Once they came along you needed donkeys or llamas as guardians, so why not have both! Since then a menagerie has ensued and our "Peaceable Kingdom" has flourished. We provide breeding stock to other farms and hobbyists and organically grown chicken, lamb, turkey, guinea hen, quail, duck, goose and goat as well. Free range eggs are almost always available when the girls can keep up to the demand.
Best Friends Dog School has been in existence for 25 years, starting in Pennsylvania while David was the Training Director for one of the oldest and longest running obedience clubs in the United States- Admiral Perry Obedience Training School. As classes developed and expanded, private lessons and seminars were added with students from Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York attending classes. Once David moved to Canada, classes were held in Kars Ontario outside of Ottawa and David also taught classes for the Nepean School District. Now settled in Gananoque, students from Kingston through Brockville and upstate New York come for various levels of obedience, puppy through competitive classes, agility, rally and show handling classes.
A positive curriculum based on the owner understanding the dog and why he does what he does and reinforcing good behaviour while eliminating the bad and unwanted behaviours.
A relaxed and calm atmosphere for safe keeping of your dog while you are away. A small kennel with select clients so please call ahead and book a visit ahead of time to assure we have space available when you need it. Our rates are $25 per day for medium and large dogs and $22 for smaller dogs under 30lbs. Rates are per calendar day your dog is here (not 24 hour periods). Pre-arranged visits, so we can meet your dog and assess them ahead of time, are strongly recommended to see if your dog will fit in.
